Pakistan's secret infiltration into Indian peaks triggered India's most televised war. Soldiers scaled impossible cliffs under enemy fire to reclaim every inch of soil. Vijay Diwas - July 26, 1999.

August - September 1965, Asal Uttar
Pakistan launched a massive armoured thrust. India's response turned Pakistan's vaunted Patton tanks to burning wrecks at Asal Uttar. Havildar Abdul Hamid destroyed seven tanks alone with a recoilless rifle from a jeep.

Independence and First Kashmir War
India gains freedom. The very next day, Pakistan-backed tribal forces invade Kashmir. Indian Army airlifted to Srinagar - the first test of the new nation's armed forces.
1962
Sino-Indian War
China attacks across the Himalayas. Outnumbered Indian soldiers fight with frozen rifles and minimal supplies, showing extraordinary courage against overwhelming odds at Rezang La and NEFA.
1965
Indo-Pakistan War
Pakistan's Operation Grand Slam meets India's iron resolve. The Battle of Asal Uttar shatters Pakistan's armoured corps. India stands unbroken.
1971
Bangladesh Liberation
India's finest military hour. A 13-day campaign liberates 75 million people. Sam Manekshaw's masterstroke ends with the largest military surrender since WWII. Vijay Diwas, December 16.
1984
Operation Meghdoot
India captures the Siachen Glacier at 22,000 ft - the world's highest battlefield. A bold pre-emptive move that India has held for four decades through unimaginable sacrifice.

Kargil War
Pakistani infiltration triggers India's most televised war. Operation Vijay sees Indian soldiers storm impossible peaks in summer snow and under live fire. Every peak reclaimed. Vijay.
2016
Surgical Strikes
In retaliation for the Uri attack that killed 19 soldiers, India conducts precision surgical strikes across the LoC - a powerful demonstration of decisive force and military capability.
2019
Operation Bandar - Balakot Airstrike
Following the Pulwama attack that martyred 40 CRPF jawans, IAF Mirage 2000 jets crossed into Pakistan and struck Jaish-e-Mohammed camps at Balakot on February 26. India crossed the border for the first time since 1971. Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was shot down in aerial combat and returned home a national hero.
2020
Galwan Valley Clash
20 Indian Army soldiers led by Colonel Santosh Babu fell in fierce hand-to-hand combat with PLA troops in Galwan Valley, Ladakh. India stood its ground and refused to yield a single inch. The nation mourned. The Army held the line.
2025
Operation Sindoor
Following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, India launched Operation Sindoor in May 2025 - coordinated strikes targeting nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. Indian Air Force, Army, and Navy acted in concert. India sent a message that cannot be misread: every attack on her people will have a cost.

India's paramilitary forces have shed blood on every frontier - from jungle to glacier, from border to city street. They are not soldiers of last resort. They are the first line.

Established 1939 - Strength: 3.2 Lakh+
India's largest Central Armed Police Force. Primary internal security force in Jammu and Kashmir, Naxal-affected states, and national emergency operations.

Anti-Naxal operations across Bastar and Chhattisgarh. Counter-insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir. Operation Green Hunt. Deployment during every major crisis since Partition.

On February 14, 2019, a suicide bomber struck a CRPF convoy in Pulwama. Forty jawans - fathers, sons, brothers - were martyred in one moment. They had been returning from duty. India wept. India remembered. India will always remember.

Guardian of India's borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. The BSF man stands where the nation's sovereignty ends and the unknown begins - in rain, heat, cold, and silence.

1971 War - played frontline combat role. Anti-infiltration operations in Punjab during militancy years. Kashmir valley counter-insurgency. Flood relief and disaster response across borders.

Somewhere tonight, a BSF constable stands in waist-deep marsh on the Bengal-Bangladesh border, in the dark, without fanfare. No one will know his name. But India sleeps safely because he is there.

Established 1962 - Strength: 90,000+
Guardians of the Himalayan frontier. ITBP patrols 3,488 km of Indo-China border at altitudes between 9,000 and 18,700 feet - among the toughest postings on earth.
Major Operations
Continuous border patrolling on the LAC. Galwan Valley support operations, June 2020. Uttarakhand flood and disaster relief. Security at sensitive installations and nuclear sites.

ITBP jawans were among those who stood side by side with the Army in Galwan in June 2020. They do not fight for recognition. They fight because the mountain is theirs to hold.

CISF
Established 1969 - Strength: 1.6 Lakh+
Protectors of India's critical infrastructure - airports, ports, metro systems, nuclear installations, and government buildings. The silent shield no one notices until the moment it matters most.
Major Operations
Security response during 26/11 at CSIA Mumbai. Protection of all Indian airports and nuclear facilities. Counter-threat operations at Parliament and Rashtrapati Bhavan complex.

Martyrs in the line of duty since 1969
When a terrorist eyes India's airports, nuclear plants, or Parliament, a CISF jawan stands in the way. They ask for nothing in return. That is what duty means.

SSB
Established 1963 - Strength: 88,000+
Guardians of India's borders with Nepal and Bhutan. SSB is also the lead intelligence agency along its sectors and plays a crucial role in preventing cross-border crime and insurgency.
Major Operations
Counter-trafficking and anti-smuggling operations on Nepal and Bhutan borders. Internal security deployments in Northeast India. Anti-Naxal grid support in border districts.

The Nepal and Bhutan borders may seem peaceful. They are not. SSB ensures they stay that way, quietly and without complaint.

Assam Rifles
AR
Established 1835 - Strength: 65,000+
India's oldest paramilitary force and the first to guard the Northeast. Called the "Sentinels of the Northeast" and "Friends of the Hill People" - Assam Rifles has fought in every major conflict since 1835.
Major Operations
Both World Wars under British India. 1962 Sino-Indian War. Counter-insurgency in Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram for decades. Myanmar border operations against insurgents.

Over 1,000 Martyrs - oldest battle honours in India
They have fought in jungles, mountains, and river valleys for 190 years. Before India was India, they were already holding the line in the Northeast. There is no force older in service to this land.

NSG
Established 1984 - Strength: 7,500+
India's elite counter-terrorism force. The Black Cats are deployed only in the most extreme situations - hostage rescue, VVIP protection during threats, and neutralising armed terror attacks on Indian soil.
Major Operations
Operation Black Thunder - Golden Temple, 1988. Mumbai 26/11 attacks - Hotel Taj, Trident, Nariman House. Numerous aircraft hijack rescues. Counter-terror operations in Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad.

Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and comrades - 26/11
When every other option fails and the nation is in danger, the NSG goes in. Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan ran toward the sound of gunfire in the Taj and told his men: "Don't come up - I'll handle them." He did. He gave everything.

Every state, every city, every day
India's police officers are the first to arrive and often the last to leave. They are unarmed when compared to the threats they face. They fall before the Army is even called. They fall without medals. They fall quietly.
Major Sacrifices
Mumbai ATS Chief Hemant Karkare - killed facing terrorists on 26/11. Inspector Vijay Salaskar, Ashok Kamte - same night, same sacrifice. Tukaram Omble - stopped Kasab with his bare hands, took bullets to ensure his capture. Thousands of police martyrs across India since Independence.

Thousands of police martyrs - largely uncounted
Tukaram Omble grabbed Kasab's AK-47 barrel with his hands and took the full burst to ensure India caught its first live terrorist. He died. India got justice. We must never forget this man's name.
